Evaluation

1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

3) What have you learned from your audience feedback?

4) How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Poster and Magazine Research

Feedback results

From these results I made some changes to the film. I added a film award to make it look like a real trailer. There wasn't really any other constructive comments given so that was all I changed. It was also reassuring that the majority of the target audience said they would expect to see it on MTV which is where it probably would be shown.

First Draft

ON BOARD WITH HARRY - Film Trailer from lucy webster on Vimeo.

Music Production

Choosing the music was quite a key part as there is no speech throughout so the feel of it was dependent on the music I chose. I also had to consider my target audience so the kind of people who will watch it, what they listened to. After doing some research and asking the target audience feedback group, Harry himself and his friends who also skate I had an idea in my head of what kind of route to go down. I could either do the 'chilled out' alternative music with lots of percussion making it a bit more dance-y. Or I could do the energetic house music which is also popular with the niche audience. After experimenting, I preferred the more chilled out music so I began to find a couple of songs. I found The XX - Intro which seemed to fit the pace of my film quite well but it wasn't long enough and was a bit repetitive. I then found One Day - Asaf Avidan Wanklemut remix. This also fitted well as the film became more uplifting with the narrative of Harry getting better at skateboarding. I decided to start the film with 'Intro' and then go into 'One Day.' I cropped the length of the songs so I knew when i wanted them to start and finish. I also eased in the music using this effect Cropping the song (Clicking the settings cog and selecting audio trimmer)

Fading out the song (Clicking the settings cog and selecting audio adjustments)
And I could fade it out aswell to make it smooth sounding. The transaction between the two songs was done by stopping the first song on the beat, having a clip with no music, and then back in with the new song on the beat. I think this worked quite well, as it engaged the audience as it was quite sudden and the clip in the middle was a silhouette of Harry, rather than a normal camera shot used in the rest of the film.

EDITING THE FILM

I produced the film on iMovie and after selecting clips from the rushes I had to edit the footage. The title effect was done by slowing down the speed of the skateboard rolling on the ground.

I then added my title which I created in Photoshop, I removed the background and added it to iPhoto. I then went back into iMovie and added the image, using the 'Picture in Picture' tool. I then added a Ken Burns effect to move in the same direction as the skateboard almost as if the text was on the skateboard.

Another edit I made was towards the end of the film, I used a number of photos taken directly after each other of Harry going up a ramp. I uploaded them onto my video and allowed each photo to appear very quickly so when played together which worked quite effectively. I also varied some of the brightness

                       PRODUCING THE POSTER
The poster was a fairly simplistic layout, i wanted to keep it plain and clean, with not too much on or to give away.
I simply uploaded the photo onto photoshop. I then drew in think black pen around the edges of the photo and added a strong 'Gaussian blur' which made the edges have a dark blur which was effective and also made the title stand out in the middle, where it wasn't darkened.

I then created a new layer and placed my title in the centre. Then another layer with the small print of credits.

                   PRODUCING THE MAGAZINE COVER
I created this on Photoshop too. I scanned the image onto the computer, and cropped it to a suitable size. I then, in a new layer added the title 'PREMIER'. I made it very large, but also semi-opaque as I didn't want too much attention drawn to it. I then removed some of the lettering so it appeared behind Harry's head using the eraser tool.
I then added a box at the bottom of the page where I could add text and it could be legible. The cover was put together really using text boxes and opaque boxes. I altered the brightness levels and opacity levels and chose a suitable colour scheme which I feel worked well with the photo used. I used a question on the cover to address the audience also.
